Skrova Summer Day Out
-
Escape.
Step off the mainland and into something completely different. The Skrova Summer Day Out is a 6-hour guided experience from Svolvær to one of Lofoten’s most surprising gems, the island of Skrova. Known as the “Hawaii of the north”, Skrova delivers white sand beaches, turquoise water, and a laid-back island atmosphere that feels a world away from the dramatic peaks of mainland Lofoten. Starting from Svolvær Ferjekai, we take the local ferry across Vestfjorden, a short journey that sets the tone for a day of discovery.
-
Journey.
This is not just transport, it’s part of the experience. The ferry crossing offers incredible views back towards Svolvær and the surrounding mountains - The Lofoten Wall - giving you a fresh perspective on the Lofoten Islands. Keep your camera ready, because this stretch of water often surprises with seabirds and changing light that photographers love. Arriving in Skrova, you immediately feel the slower pace, a small island community with deep fishing heritage and a strong creative soul.
-
Explore.
Once on the island, we set out on foot to experience the very best of Skrova. We hike across the island, taking in panoramic views over Lofoten and Vestfjorden, before descending into the village to explore its unique character. A highlight is the famous art tunnel, a hidden burst of creativity that contrasts beautifully with the raw nature outside. Along the way, you’ll hear stories of island life, fishing traditions, and how Skrova has evolved into one of the most charming destinations in Lofoten.
-
Road Unwind.
No island day out is complete without slowing down properly. We finish with a relaxed coffee stop at Heimbrygga, a local favourite where you can soak up the atmosphere and reflect on the day. Whether you come for the scenery, the stories, or simply to experience a different side of Lofoten, this tour offers a perfect balance of light adventure and genuine local culture. It’s an easy, rewarding escape that shows why Skrova truly earns its nickname, the hawaii of the north.
What You Need To Know
Where do we meet?
We will meet at the Svolvær-Skrova ferry quay. Just look for ‘Svolvær fergekai’ on Google Maps. We will meet you by the yellow building to begin the tour.
What time do we start?
We will meet you at 09:20. It is very important to be on time - we will leave on the 09:30 ferry. We will have you back by about 15:30.
When does this tour operate?
Skrova Summer Day Out operates daily from 1st June to 31st August.
What’s included in the price?
Transport and Guiding is included. If you bring your camera, your guide will help you get great photos. Lunch and refreshments are not included but time will be made for these.
What is the level of difficulty?
This tour is moderate. There is some gentle, mountain walking involved. The summit of Skrovafjellet is 258m (848ft) above sea level. This tour is suitable for those aged 10 and up.
What else do I need to know?
It’s important to dress appropriately and wear good shoes. The Arctic weather can change fast in Lofoten so be prepared, be comfortable, and be warm.
Is Skrova worth visiting in Lofoten?
Absolutely, and this is where most people miss a trick. While everyone rushes west to Reine, Skrova offers something different: a quieter, more authentic island experience with beaches, sea views, and a proper fishing village feel. It is one of the best-kept secrets in Lofoten.
What makes Skrova different from other Lofoten tours?
Skrova is about slowing down. No long drives, no crowds, just a short ferry ride from Svolvær and suddenly you are in a completely different world. It is more local, more relaxed, and far more personal than the classic postcard route.
Is this tour suitable for cruise passengers?
Yes, and it is a fantastic option. The timing works well for many ships docking in Svolvær, and because the island is so close, you avoid spending hours on the road. It is a smart choice if you want a meaningful experience without the stress. Double check your port-call times for a 09:20 departure and 15:30 return at Svolvær Ferry Quay (not the Cruise Terminal).
Do we take a ferry to Skrova?
Yes, and it is part of the experience. The short ferry crossing gives you incredible views back towards the Lofoten wall and often feels like a mini adventure before you even arrive.
How physically demanding is the tour?
This is a light, easy-going day out. There is some walking on flat and slightly uneven ground, a mountain to walk up to a 258m summit, but nothing extreme. If you can comfortably stroll around a village and along a beach, you will be absolutely fine.
Is this a good tour for photographers?
It is brilliant. You get coastal landscapes, fishing village details, beaches, and open sea views, all in soft summer light. And because it is less crowded than the western hotspots, you actually have space to shoot without someone’s tripod in your ribs.
What should I wear for the Skrova tour?
Even in summer, this is Arctic Norway. Bring layers, a windproof jacket, and comfortable shoes. If the sun shows up, fantastic. If not, you will still be glad you dressed properly.
Is food included on the tour?
Food is not included as standard, but there are opportunities to stop for snacks, coffee, or a light meal on the island. If you want something more tailored, that can be arranged in advance.
Can this tour be booked as a private experience?
Yes, and it works beautifully as a private tour. If you want flexibility, a slower pace, or something a bit more special for a couple or small group, a private Skrova experience is a great option.
Can I be picked up from my hotel or accommodation?
For this tour to Skrova we will meet you on at the ferry quay and tour Skrova on foot.
What if the weather is bad?
This is Lofoten, the weather always has personality. The tour will go ahead if it can still offer a good experience. If conditions are genuinely poor or unsafe, you will be contacted with options to transfer or receive a refund.
When is the best time to visit Skrova?
Summer is perfect, especially from late May to late August when the light is soft, the days are long, and the island is at its most accessible. It is one of those places that just feels right in summer.
