Lofoten Wildlife Safari
-
Moose.
This safari is built around one of Norway’s true icons, the moose. The Lofoten Islands are one of the best places in the country to see them, often surprisingly close to the road, grazing in coastal meadows, forest edges, and open landscapes.
We travel slowly along quiet roads, scanning carefully and giving these gentle giants the space they deserve. When we find them, we stop, observe, and enjoy the moment. No rushing, no pressure, just calm encounters and the thrill of seeing such a huge animal completely at ease in its natural environment.
-
Wildlife.
Moose may be the headline act, but they’re far from alone. As we explore varied habitats, we’re constantly on the lookout for white-tailed eagles overhead, foxes moving through the tundra, otters along the shoreline, seals near the water, and owls tucked away in the trees.
Birdlife is a highlight in its own right, with chances to spot everything from seabirds to woodland species, including the fossekallen, Norway’s national bird. Every tour is different, and that sense of uncertainty is half the fun. You never quite know what’s going to appear around the next corner.
-
Ocean.
From April to October, there’s an extra layer of excitement. Orcas and other whales occasionally pass through the Vestfjorden, and if local sightings come in during the tour, we adapt the route and look for them from land.
Seeing whales from shore is never guaranteed, but when it happens it’s unforgettable. It usually involves a sudden stop, a lot of pointing, and some very happy shouting. Even without whales, the coastal scenery alone makes this part of the journey special.
-
Respect.
This is a calm, ethical wildlife experience designed for observation, photography, and genuine connection with nature. We move at an unhurried pace, make frequent stops, and allow plenty of time to watch behavior unfold naturally.
Long lenses and tripods are welcome, and there’s guidance throughout on light, positioning, and respectful wildlife viewing. No chasing, no ticking boxes. Just patience, local knowledge, and the quiet joy of being out in the landscape, letting Lofoten reveal itself on its own terms.
